Broadcast Television Series Production - Fun City

Jessica created the Lifestyle TV series Fun City as a way to address a ubiquitous cultural tension: adults hunger for real connection and shared joy, but there are few accessible ways to find it in our fractured, digital, modern world. This series brings play, creativity, and community back into the real world through inspiring episodes that act as a blueprint for viewers at home to join in the magic.

Overview

Jessica identified a clear cultural need rooted in lived experience: shrinking creative spaces, growing social isolation, and a lack of low-barrier ways for adults to explore curiosity and connection together. Rather than approaching this as a lifestyle show, she designed Fun City as a participatory format built around real people, real subcultures, and hands-on experiences.

The series was developed as a creator-led project from the outset. Jessica conceived the concept and format, pitched the show to broadcasters and partners, wrote and produced every episode, hosted the show on camera, and oversaw all creative and production decisions while working within the strict requirements of broadcast television.

Key outcomes and milestones:

  • Conceived, researched, and pitched series concept

  • Secured broadcast television licence and first season episode order

  • Secured production partnership with Quest Coast Studios to crew production and post production

  • Secured all episode subjects and locations, developing lasting connections with creatives and community groups throughout Vancouver and beyond

  • Wrote, produced, and hosted the series

  • Aired in a prime-time slot on CHEK Television, delivering some of the highest ratings on the network during its run, and a request for a second season

  • Helped draw attention to the work of many incredible niche creative communities and artists and inspired people to revisit childhood dreams

Fun City demonstrated that joyful community-driven programming can succeed within traditional broadcast systems. With that foundation in place, Jessica is now applying the same insight-led, experience-first approach to new formats, brands, and media projects looking to connect more meaningfully with their audiences.
